Additional Hitachi C10FSB 12 Amp 10-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw Information

Take the versatility of a fully functional dual bevel compound saw, add in a smooth operating slide, throw a 12 amp, single-phase 60 Hz motor "under the hood," and you’re got the Hitachi C10FSB 10-inch dual bevel sliding compound miter saw. This saw works effectively in both wood and aluminum sash applications. A built-in soft-start feature, electronic speed control, and a no load speed of 3,800 rpm combine to ensure clean, accurate miter, bevel, compound, slide, groove, and press cuts every time. The slide works almost effortlessly and can handle work pieces up to 3-11/32-by-12-9/32 inches or 3-9/16-by-11 inches, with press cutting capabilities for narrower work pieces up to 3-11/32 inches square. For bevel, miter, and compound cutting, the saw bevels 45 degrees right and left of center, with a miter range of 0 to 45 degrees left and 0 to 57 degrees right. Positive stops are provided at the most common miter angles, but the saw can be positioned securely at any point along the scale. For added versatility, the saw’s vice assembly mounts on either the right or left side of the base and can be raised or lowered according to the work piece height. Blades are easy to remove and install. A polyethylene V-belt protects the saw’s motor against overload.-- Carl Thress

Choosing a Miter Saw
Miter saws are versatile tools that have become a mainstay of workshops everywhere. These powerful saws make angled cuts by pulling a circular blade down onto a workpiece with a short, controlled plunge. It might appear that miter saws are infinitely complex and varied, but there are only three general types. The type you choose will depend on your woodworking needs.

Basic Miter Saws
Basic miter saws are the least versatile off the three major variations, but they’re a great starting point for novice do-it-yourselfers. These models typically adjust for miter cuts only, so consider upgrading if you need to do more than that.

Compound Miter Saw
Compound miter saws are easier to use than basic miter saws because you can place your stock flat for cutting, and they adjust simultaneously for miter and bevel cuts. A compound miter saw is great for jobs that feature stock that's not very tall or wide, such as door and window trim or picture frames.

Sliding Compound Miter Saws
Sliding compound miter saws are the most versatile of the available models. They have a motor and blade assembly that's mounted on a moveable arm to accommodate longer, wider workpieces. For smaller pieces, the saw performs like an ordinary fixed-head model. On some models, the blade can only pivot in one direction, but on a dual sliding compound miter saw, the blade can tilt to the right or left.

Important Features at a Glance
Though models will vary by manufacturer and design, these are a few of the more commonly found features that you might want to keep in mind.

  • Electric brake: Reverses the flow of electricity when the saw's trigger is released. This is an important safety feature that slows the blade quickly in case of emergency.
  • Blade guard: Most miter saws have self-retracting guards that withdraw when the saw is lowered for use, and reappear when it is raised.
  • Laser guide: Gives a precise visual line where the cut will occur on your workpiece.
  • Dust bag: Helps collect sawdust for a clearer, more tidy cutting area.
  • Shaft lock: Immobilizes the shaft and blade for quicker, easier blade changes.
  • Table extensions: Mount on either side of the saw to help balance longer workpieces.

Miter Saw Blades
Miter saw blades come in a variety of different sizes, grades, and materials, but there are three main types: steel, high-speed steel, and carbide-tipped blades.

  • Steel: Inexpensive and good for cutting soft woods or plywoods. Sharpness diminishes quickly in tougher materials.
  • High-Speed Steel: More rugged than steel blades, and great for cutting harder woods.
  • Carbide-Tipped: More expensive than other blades but much more durable. Maintain sharpness over a longer period.

What Customers Say About Hitachi C10FSB 12 Amp 10-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw:

I do think it's a great saw, though. I agree that a "D" handle would have been much more comfortable.I bought it at $439, but got a refund for the difference when it dropped to $349.

Amazon shipped me a replacement overnight. The saw seems great. Arrived with some deep scratches on the base near the miter adjustments.

Nice miter controls. Stock blade is almost good enough for finish work. The dual bevel adjustment seems a little haphazard.

The dust bag is junk but does a decent job collecting roughly 2/3 the dust.Everything else seems fine to me. I would not again pay $439 for it, and definitely would not pay $500+ for it.

Amazon service has been outstanding for me.

Light, accurate, great laser, but this thing just screams. My second Hitachi saw. As a full time carpenter, I've used this saw day in and day out for 2 years. You'll really need hearing protection when using it all day. It's not an issue with the blade. Originally I had the old 8" compound miter saw and used it daily until I finally wore it out after 10+ years. Bought this one as a replacement. I use several different blades, it's the electric brake. The soft start is nice and smooth, and not too bad noise wise, but let the trigger go and it really shrieks.Other than that I would certainaly recommend it if you need a good dependable tool.Just expect to say "What." a lot at the end of the day.Might seem to be a silly complaint, but I've had a significant hearing loss after working around power tools for the last 30+ years, so noise levels have become a criteria as important as accuracy and dependability in my book.

and for what it costs, I should love it, but I don't. A couple of colleagues have the 12" Bosch slider, and love it, which at this point I wish I'd bought. It slides smooth, and cuts wide stock.

After two weeks, I still haven't rec'd the replacement, so I can only make cuts from the right side. The table is also pretty small. It came with a bowed left fence.

The blade it came with is good. The right fence is about an inch tall, i.e. TINY.

The saw I'm replacing is a five-year old 12" Dewalt (dual bevel but no slider), which I still prefer, sad to say(bigger table and fences). Anybody want my Hitachi 10" slider.

Blade access is designed well without the need of a third hand to hold the guard out of the way while you are changing the blade. After giving up an accurate 1980's vintage "Skilsaw" 10" Miter Saw for increased capacity only to experience many years of frustration from time and material wasted working, tuning and retuning a 12" Dewalt Dual Bevel Compound Saw and a Delta 10" Radial Arm Saw(returned to merchant),I decided to try the Hitachi C10FSB 10-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Saw.I settled on the Hitachi C10FSB because of the reviews I have read and my personal experience with Hitachi Customer Service Call Center for a Hitachi Compressor I have owned for nine years.I am 100% satisfied. The sliding tubes are smooth and have NO sloppy play. No need to build a custom dust boot or a new configuration to the dust collector. Well balanced and configured. The adjustments are accessable and ledgable from the front of the saw which makes it practical for mounting to a permanent location.

Minor detail but should mention the safety switch position takes some getting used to but it does keep you aware that you are about to start the saw. Specificly the out of the box quality, uncomplicated manual and most of all the accuracy. One wrench included fits most of the adjustment hardware including the blade. The dust bag and additional special attention designed into the saw guard surprisingly captures most of the dust generated. However I was able to insert 1 1/2" PVC pipe in place of the supplied bag and a couple of 15 degree elbows and connect the Vacuume hose to it. Last comment, it is not a heavy brute to pickup and carry.

I plan on bragging about and keeping this saw for a LONG time.

great saw love everything about itwish the 12 slider was just like it
